Identity & Role

Who are you without your title?

4 min read

For years, the title did useful work. It opened doors, organised your time, and told other people — and quietly, you — who you were.

Then one day the title fits the calendar but not the person. You are still the reliable one, the composed one, the one who carries it. And underneath, a question: who am I when I'm not this?

Identity built around a role is efficient, but it has a cost. The more completely you become the role, the harder it is to find yourself outside it.

Transition work doesn't ask you to abandon what you've built. It asks a gentler question: which parts of this are truly yours, and which did you simply adapt to?

What remains, when you set the role down for an hour, is usually more intact than you feared — and more worth listening to than you've allowed.

These reflections echo the conversations inside coaching.

If this resonated, a discovery call is a quiet place to begin.
